OBJECTIVES

1. The primary objective of CITTAC is to promote and accompany workers’ struggles to improve their work and living conditions and to create autonomous and democratic organizations. This primary objective implies numerous additional objectives, including the following:

2. Collaborate with workers that rebel against workplace exploitation, offering legal assistance, organizing advice, support in disseminating information about their struggles and demands, and support in establishing solidarity connections with democratic movements.

3. Promote knowledge of labor rights, the Mexican Constitution, the Federal Labor Law, other laws that govern labor relations, and international labor law recognized by Mexico. CITTAC seeks to overcome the lack of knowledge of labor rights among the workers, promote the defense and strengthening of these rights, and prevent the systematic violation of these rights (the norm in the maquiladora industry).

4. Support and promote workers’ efforts to create democratic labor organizations and collective bargaining contracts that guarantee fair jobs. Promote and support the struggles against “charro” and “ghost” unions, corrupt and authoritarian labor leaders and anti-union acts committed by companies and the government.

5. Further the exchange of experiences among workers to learn from common experiences, avoid the repetition of mistakes and to be inspired by other movements form Mexico and around the world.

6. Accompany workers in their efforts to bring about respect and dignity for women, including equal pay, the right to express one’s sexuality, free and voluntary maternity, and the struggle against sexual harassment and domestic and labor violence.

7. Support labor movements for better pay, to raise the minimum wage, and to make good on the constitutional principal of a fairly remunerated wage.

8. Accompany workers in their struggles for working conditions that are safe, hygienic and respectful of workers’ mental and physical health.

9. Accompany workers in discovering and addressing the presence of toxins, corrosives, poisons and other contaminants in the workplace and struggling for their appropriate handling and adequate protection for workers.
